However, Musk believes that in order to combat congestion in the future, we certainly need to go underground.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt;\">&#8220;Traffic is one of the most soul-destroying things in one&#8217;s life because it takes so much of your life.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt;\">To mitigate this problem, Musk envisions a future of auto-traffic in a 3D network of stacked underground tunnels where the speed of transport may rise to as high as 200kmph. They&#8217;ve singled out Los Angeles as the\u00a0destination for their first test.\u00a0If successful, the future of underground travel will allow getting from Westwood to LA in under six minutes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt;\">However exciting it sounds, there are numerous challenges to bringing\u00a0this solution into reality. The most important\u00a0ones being feasibility and cost of creating such a network. However, in his talk, Musk believes that with lighter regulations, design improvements and better energy efficiency, his company will be able to achieve a ten-fold improvement in cost per mile tunneling. While tunneling is essential to accommodate these rising numbers, Tesla is now planning to go completely driver-less in order to create an autonomous fleet of driver-less cars which can further the dream of a shared economy. In the future, your car will drive you effortlessly to your destination, and will thereafter be available to others for use.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt;\">Here&#8217;s how it would possibly look like<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=WEwNFWYj0dM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=WEwNFWYj0dM<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Musk also unveiled his plans for a heavy duty Tesla truck which aims to alleviate the use of fossil fuels based truck fleet in the US, while carrying the power of higher magnitude than fuel based trucks.<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">This comes\u00a0in response to combating the\u00a0large reliance of US on fuel based trucks and switch to cleaner sources in the wake of global climate change. \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"mars-colonization\">Mars Colonization<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt;\">In the midst of all this, let&#8217;s not forgo Musk&#8217;s\u00a0outrageously ambitious plan of making humanity a space-faring species; starting with colonizing Mars.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt;\">In Sept 2016, Musk announced his plans to colonize Mars. While the key transformative\u00a0element in Musk&#8217;s\u00a0Mars colonization plan is Reusability, SpaceX has\u00a0demonstrated this by <a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=lEr9cPpuAx8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">landing its\u00a0Falcon 9 rocket booster in sea and relaunching again.<\/span> <\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Becom<\/span>ing<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> an\u00a0interplanetary species idea is infact\u00a0intriguing<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> , but also poses a moral quandary. Why move to Mars when one can pool all the resources and create a better Earth?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt;\">To which Musk&#8217;s answer is apt<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">&#8220;I look at the future from the standpoint of probabilities.\u00a0It&#8217;s like a branching stream of probabilities,\u00a0and there are actions that we can take that affect those probabilities\u00a0or that accelerate one thing or slow down another thing. Sustainable energy will happen no matter what.\u00a0If there was no Tesla, if Tesla never existed,\u00a0it would have to happen out of necessity.\u00a0It&#8217;s tautological.\u00a0If you don&#8217;t have sustainable energy, it means you have unsustainable energy.\u00a0Eventually you will run out,\u00a0and the laws of economics will drive civilization towards sustainable energy,\u00a0inevitably.\u00a0The fundamental value of a company like Tesla\u00a0is the degree to which it accelerates the advent of sustainable energy,\u00a0faster than it would otherwise occur.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Then there&#8217;s becoming a multiplanet species and space-faring civilization.\u00a0This is not inevitable.\u00a0It&#8217;s very important to appreciate this is not inevitable.\u00a0The sustainable energy future I think is largely inevitable,\u00a0but being a space-faring civilization is definitely not inevitable.\u00a0If you look at the progress in space,\u00a0in 1969 you were able to send somebody to the moon.\u00a01969.\u00a0Then we had the Space Shuttle.\u00a0The Space Shuttle could only take people to low Earth orbit.\u00a0Then the Space Shuttle retired,\u00a0and the United States could take no one to orbit.\u00a0So that&#8217;s the trend.\u00a0The trend is like down to nothing.\u00a0People are mistaken when they think\u00a0that technology just automatically improves.\u00a0It does not automatically improve.\u00a0It only improves if a lot of people work very hard to make it better,\u00a0and actually it will, I think, by itself degrade, actually. You look at great civilizations like ancient Egypt,\u00a0and they were able to make the pyramids,\u00a0and they forgot how to do that.\u00a0And then the Romans, they built these incredible aqueducts.\u00a0They forgot how to do it.&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2 id=\"elon-musk-and-humanitys-future\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Elon Musk and humanity&#8217;s future<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">This is an epoch of technological and scientific transformation for humanity. Musk, through his TED talk provides a glimpse of the exciting technological progress the future holds. Simultaneously,\u00a0innovation at his companies serves as a benchmark for other\u00a0global organisations to reach up-to and innovate beyond.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">As Elon Musk says,\u00a0&#8220;<em>It is important to have\u00a0a future that is inspiring and appealing.
